Empowering Lives Through Yoga and Nutrition

Chandigarh, September 13, 2024: The Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development is thrilled to announce the successful kick-off of POSHAN Maah, dedicated to tackling malnutrition and promoting holistic health across the region. This year’s celebrations have been marked by a series of vibrant and impactful events, engaging citizens and creating awareness on crucial health issues.

The day commenced with the inauguration of the 5th Chandigarh State Yogasana Sports Championship, which will hold from September 13 to 15, 2024, at the Government College of Yoga Education & Health, Sector-23-A Chandigarh. The event was graced by Chief Guest Smt. Anuradha S. Chagti, CSS, Secretary Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, and Dr. Palika Arora, Director of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration. The event showcased various forms of Yogasana, including traditional, artistic, and rhythmic styles, aiming to channelize students’ energy positively and empower them with essential knowledge. In addition, the Anganwadi Workers presented millet-based recipes at the event, which received widespread appreciation from attendees. Millet-based nutrition has been a focal point of POSHAN Maah, promoting sustainable and nutritious dietary practices.

Other notable activities included:
* Slogan Writing Competition: Held at Dhanas, where children actively participated, showcasing their creativity and understanding of healthy eating habits.
* Millet-based Recipe Competition: Conducted at Anganwadi centers in Mauli Colony, focusing on millet-based recipes to highlight the benefits of incorporating these grains into daily diets.
* Bacha & Shiksha, Poshan bhi Padhai bhi: An event organized at the Anganwadi Building in Ramdarbar, focusing on the dual importance of education and nutrition.
* Growth Monitoring: Comprehensive monitoring activities across all 450 Anganwadi Centres, demonstrating a strong commitment to tracking and supporting the growth and development of children enrolled under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program.
* Educational Lectures: A series of informative sessions covered critical topics including diet during pregnancy, the importance of girls’ education, immunization, anemia prevention, complementary feeding, exclusive breastfeeding, and the integration of AYUSH principles into health management.
* Home Visits: All 450 Anganwadi Centres undertook home visits to raise awareness about the importance of Vitamin-A doses, complementary feeding practices, and the management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) in children.
