ECI Unveils 18 New Electoral Reforms

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched 18 new initiatives to improve electoral roll accuracy, enhance voter convenience, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and modernize election management.

Key Highlights:
1. Voter-Centric Reforms:
Polling stations will be limited to 1,200 electors and located within 2 km for ease of access. Urban polling booths will be set up in high-rise colonies. Voter Information Slips will be redesigned for better clarity. Death registration data will now be electronically integrated to streamline voter list updates.

2. Political Party Engagement:
Top ECI officials held consultations with national and state political parties. Over 4,700 all-party meetings have been conducted nationwide. For the first time, Booth Level Agents (BLAs) are being formally trained to strengthen grassroots electoral processes.

3. Digital Transformation – ECINET:
ECINET, a unified digital platform integrating 40+ apps, will provide a seamless interface for voters and officials. It will benefit 100 crore electors and over 70 lakh personnel. Data will be securely entered by authorized officials only. The issue of duplicate EPIC numbers has been fully resolved.

4Capacity Building:
A national conference at IIIDEM brought together CEOs, DEOs, and EROs to map roles and responsibilities. Upcoming initiatives include multilingual digital training kits, animated modules, and integrated dashboards for frontline staff.

5.Legal

28 stakeholders were identified in the entire process of preparation of electoral rolls and
conduct of elections, including electors, election officials, political parties, candidates and
others based on Representation of the People Act 1950, 1951, Registration of Electors
Rules 1960, Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 and the instructions issued by the ECI from time to time.

For each of these stakeholders, training presentations are being prepared based on the
Acts, Rules and Instructions of the Government.
