Dr Kashmir Singh, Biotechnology Department granted a project

Chandigarh sunita shastri:Dr Kashmir Singh, Associate Professor, Biotechnology Department, Panjab University Chandigarh has been granted a project on genome editing of potato by ICAR-NASF New Delhi. The total cost of project is 1.65 crore and it will be run in collaboration with CPRI, Shimla and IISER, Trivandrum. Dr Singh will work on designing CRISPR-CAS mediated gene editing methods to convert the process of meiosis into mitosis for the generation of true potato seeds. This work will ensure low heterozygosity in potato seeds and will help farmers to grow true hybrid crop along with low pathogen infections.
