Currently, Malaria Wing, U.T., Chandigarh is engaged in extensive field operations for
prevention and control of vector borne diseases like Malaria, Dengue & Chikungunya.
These include extensive field surveys for mosquitogenic situations, epidemiological and
entomological surveillance, chemical control measures like spray of insecticides and
fogging operations.

So far in 2024, a total of 5,64,929 households have been surveyed. A total of 99,692
coolers, 8,94,294 containers, 3,68,921 overhead tanks, 32,359 refrigerators back trays and 20,244 number of Bird-feeding pots have been checked.

Chemical control activities are being carried out aggressively in the entire city. A total of
5042 houses have been sprayed with insecticides, 21,887 points have been treated with MLO/Temephos, fogging with handheld machines has been done at 604 locations and at 821 locations with vehicle mounted fogging machines.

Fogging operations are being done jointly by Malaria Wing, Health Department, Chandigarh & MC, Chandigarh. This is being done in a roster wise manner to cover the entire city. The fogging operations were started from April, 2024 onwards.

Awareness activities are being done at community level to make residents aware of the preventive steps for control of vector borne diseases. Anti-Dengue drive has been launched in co-ordination with NSS volunteers for the month of August and September,
2024.

IEC activities are being carried out through distribution of pamphlets, megaphone
announcements, group meetings, newspaper advertisements and display of preventive measures on LED screens installed traffic lights.

Advisories have been issued by Health Department from time to time. Also, special advisories have been issued to all schools,
colleges and educational institutions in the city. Letters for community preparedness
were issued in April, 2024 itself to all the Government offices, educational institutions and various departments. Multitude of activities were carried out on special days/months (World Malaria Day, National Dengue Day, Anti-Malaria month, Anti-
Dengue month and World Mosquito Day).

Strict implementation of bye laws is being done by issuing of notices, show cause notices and challans to the defaulters for creating mosquitogenic situations. So far 5167 notices, 396 show cause notices and 511 challans have been issued this
season.

Hospitals are well prepared for any exigency. Dengue wards with dedicated beds have been established at major hospitals. Adequate testing kits, necessary drugs /logistics are in place for case management. Blood banks are fully prepared to meet any
requirement of blood components. Free testing facilities (Dengue NS1/ IgM ELISA) are available at GMSH-16, GMCH-32 & PGIMER. Free testing for Malaria Parasite is
available at all Malaria Units in AAMs (Ayushman Arogya Mandir), CH-MM, CH-22, CH-
45 & GMSH-16.

A dedicated Dengue Helpline number (7626002036) is in place for public to register
complaints for spray, fogging and other related queries.
