Citizens Awareness Group organises workshop on Mutual Funds

Mohali, October 14, 2024: Citizens Awareness Group in association with SEBI for the students and faculty of Department of Commerce, USMS, Ryat Bahra University, organised an expert talk on ” Regulatory Landscape of Mutual Funds’. The session was conducted by Dr. Tajinder Singh and Surinder Verma expert in mutual fund and SEBI regulation with extensive experience in the securities market.

The talk focused on explaining the role of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and how mutual funds can be a smart investment option for students entering the world of finance. The talk then shifted to SEBI’s regulatory role in the mutual fund industry, which is crucial to safeguarding investors.

Surinder Verma, Chairman of Citizens Awareness Group, gave a detailed in- sight into creating wealth from stock markets through the latest technological advancements. He spoke about how mobile apps have become popular in trading and stressed the challenges of adopting technology and how to overcome them. He also brought to the fore the risks technology poses, like data thefts, glitches, etc., that cause losses, but the right use of technology can bring long-term gains. He said the awareness pertaining to the stock market is lacking among investors. There had been a lot of hesitance which eventually lent to wrong decision due to lack of information. Hence, role of such platform helps the investors to cope with such situations.

Students can start investing with small amounts, even ₹500 per month, through Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs).This talk provided students with practical knowledge of investments and helped demystify the role of SEBI in ensuring a secure and well-regulated environment. The expert concluded by encouraging students to start their investment journey early, with mutual funds being a beginner-friendly option.
