Chandigarh Celebrates 76th Independence Day

Thrilling performance by Air Devils of Indian Air Force Enthrals the Audience at Parade Ground

Administrator Felicitates Employees of Chandigarh Administration and Police Personnel for Outstanding Service

Chandigarh, 15 August, 2022: Chandigarh Administration today celebrated the 75 years of Independence with full patriotic fervor at Parade Ground, Chandigarh. The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit was the chief guest of the occasion.

The celebrations began at the Parade Ground where the Administrator hoisted the National Flag and inspected the Guard of Honour. This was followed by a March Past by various contingents of Police and NCC Cadets participating in the Independence Day Parade.

Sh. Banwarilal Purohit addressed the audience by recalling the sacrifices of countless men and women who gave everything they had, including their lives, for the attainment of freedom. He lauded the indomitable spirit of the well-informed residents of the city who are truly dedicated to its development.

Sh. Purohit highlighted the latest initiatives and achievements of Chandigarh Administration and awarded commendation certificates to 31 employees of the Chandigarh Administration and general public for rendering outstanding services in the field of Public services, Art and Culture, Social Services and Sports. Two Police personnel were also conferred President’s Police Medal and 15 Police personnel were conferred with Administrator’s Police Medal for their distinguished and meritorious services.

This year’s celebration got more thrilling with the spectacular demonstration by Indian Air Force, Air Devils Skydiving display Team. The skies over Chandigarh were over-casted with colorful parachutes that were flown by eight Air devils of Indian Air Force, to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav, 75 years of
Independence. The demonstration was led by Wing Commander Ankur Yadav who has more than 300 jumps to his credit. He and his team jumped out from the Dornier aircraft ofIndian Airforce from 8000 Ft AGL .

This demonstration was conducted under the aegis of Directorate of Adventure, Air Headquarter (VB) which is presently commanded by Air Commodore S Jacob.

The Punjab Police received the overall Best Contingency Award in the parade and first prize in the category of Police Contingent, second position was bagged by Chandigarh Police Female-I and Chandigarh Police-II came third. In the category of Home Guard/ Fire Brigade/ Civil Defence, the first prize was bagged by Chandigarh Fire Services, second position was bagged by Chandigarh Home Guard and Chandigarh Civil Defence came third.

In NCC contingents, NCC Army Boys bagged the first position, NCC Army Wing Girls came second and NCC Air Wing came third. In the category of St. John Ambulance Brigade/ Road Safety/ Platoon Scouts/ Guides, the first prize was bagged by GMSSS-40, second position was bagged by GMSSS-20 and GMSSS-23 came third. In NSS contingents, Sri Guru Harkrishan School bagged the first position, GMSSS-18 came second and Shivalik Public School came third. In School Band category, GMSSS-10 bagged the first position, GMSSS-33 came second and Moti Ram Arya School came third. In cultural performances, GMSSS-21 bagged the first position, St. Joseph’s School came second, Yoga by GRID-31 and Govt College of Yoga-23 came third while GMSSS, MHC was conferred fourth.

Sh. Dharam Pal, Adviser to Administrator, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, Home Secretary, Sh. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, Finance Secretary, Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Praveer Ranjan, DGP Chandigarh and other senior officials of Chandigarh Administration and Police were present during the function.
