Chandigarh Administration Ensures Polio Vaccination for International Travellers.

Chandigarh,13th September,2024.The Government of India has issued advisory regarding Polio vaccination for international travellers between India and Polio infected countries. As per the current status of Poliovirus in different parts of the world and to minimize the risk of Poliovirus importation in the country, MoHFW, Government of India has revised the list of Polio infected countries.

Presently  eleven countries namely Afghanistan, Pakistan, Cameroon, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Madagascar, Congo, DR Congo, Somalia and Syria have been identified as Polio infected countries. All travellers to and from these countries should receive a dose of Polio vaccine at least four weeks prior to their travel.

The India has not reported any Polio case due to wild Poliovirus since 13th January 2011 and is certified polio-free on 27th March 2014 along with other countries in the South-East Asia Region of WHO.

Health Department, UT Chandigarh has made arrangements for the benefit of such International travellers. They can receive Polio Vaccination at Model Immunization Centre, 3rd floor, GMSH-16 Chandigarh and vaccination certificate shall be issued by District Immunization Officer.

All travellers coming for Polio Vaccination are requested to bring their Passport with them.
