Chairman and Managing Director, Food Corporation of India, Smt. Vanita Rattan Sharma, reviewed the position of paddy procurement and the arrangements for the acceptance of rice for the ensuing crop year 2024-25 with the Chief Secretary of Punjab and other officers from state procuring agencies today. As of November 11 , 2024, a total quantity of 135.24 LMT of paddy has arrived in the Punjab mandis, out of which 129.24 LMT has been procured by state agencies and FCI. The paddy is being purchased at MSP @ Rs 2320/- as decided by the Government of India for Grade ‘A’ paddy, and this has benefitted around 7 lakh farmers. The paddy lifting from the mandis is also in full swing, with more paddy being lifted than the arrival quantity in a day. As such, no glut in mandis is being reported, and paddy procurement is going on smoothly. The arrangement of space for the acceptance of rice was also reviewed, and it was informed that FCI is planning to move around 13-15 LMT of wheat and rice per month from Punjab. FCI is already hiring godowns from the state agency to accommodate the rice from the millers for KMS 24-25. Apart from these, the Government of India given the approval for the construction of 31 lakh MT of new godowns in Punjab, and it was requested to complete the construction of new storage capacities in a time-bound manner. The Government of India and FCI are making all efforts for the smooth acceptance of rice from Punjab.
