Candle March to mark Anti-terrorism Day
Chandigarh : In a resolute display of unity and condemnation against the pervasive threat of terrorism, Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh, under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Binu Dogra, organised a solemn candle march today within its campus to mark the Anti-terrorism Day. This initiative by the NSS wing of the College aimed to foster awareness, express solidarity with victims, and reiterate the community’s unwavering commitment to peace and non-violence. The event served as a powerful reminder that education and communal harmony are potent antidotes to the divisive ideologies propagated by terrorism.
Led by the Dean of the College Mrs. Anju Trikha, the march commenced at 6:30 pm from the Main building of the college to the Hostel parking, where students and faculty members gathered, each holding a lit candle. Madam Dean also administered the Anti-terrorism pledge. Placards bearing messages such as “No More Terrorism,” “Peace Now,” “Unity Against Violence,” and “Education for Peace” were carried by students, amplifying the message.
To express collective grief and solidarity with victims of Pahalgam terrorist attacks, a moment of silence was also observed by everyone present. All forms of terrorism and violence was condemned and perspectives were shared by NSS Incharge Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Programme Officers Dr. Vikas Sharma to raise awareness among the student community about the devastating impact of terrorism on society, to reinforce the importance of unity and resilience in the face of adversity and promote a message of peace, tolerance, and interfaith harmony. They encouraged students to become ambassadors of peace and actively contribute to a safer world, while emphasising the role of youth in combating extremism. Dr. Tajinder Kaur spoke passionately about the importance of youth voice in promoting peace, shared personal reflections on the impact of global conflicts, and pledged collective efforts towards building a harmonious society. She emphasised on the fact how Lady officers Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh led the briefings of Operation Sindoor, encouraging girls to be strong, independent and fearless in their lives.
NSS Programme Officers Dr. Ashok Chambyal, Dr. Nidhi Rana, Dr. Dajinder Kaur and Dr. Rachana Rana were also present. The candle march proved to be a deeply moving and effective event.
