BJP Strongly Opposes Chandigarh Property Tax Hike, Demands Immediate Rollback
Chandigarh, April 2, 2025 – The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation’s decision to increase property tax has sparked strong opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). An emergency meeting was held today, presided over by Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, and attended by BJP State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, Vice-President Devendra Singh Babla, and all BJP councillors.
During the meeting, BJP councillors unanimously condemned the tax hike, calling it an unfair financial burden on the citizens of Chandigarh. They pointed out that this decision was taken without proper consultation or approval from the House, making it a clear violation of democratic norms.
BJP State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra stated:
“We strongly oppose this unjust and arbitrary tax increase. It has been implemented without proper consultation and places an undue burden on the people of Chandigarh. We demand that this decision be rolled back immediately.”
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla emphasized:
“The BJP stands firmly with the people of Chandigarh. Instead of burdening citizens with additional taxes, the Municipal Corporation and the administration should focus on reducing expenses and improving efficiency.”
The BJP councillors resolved to continue raising this issue at all levels and, if necessary, to launch a widespread public movement against the tax hike. The party remains committed to protecting the interests of Chandigarh’s residents and ensuring their voices are heard.
