The National Media Confederation (NMC) has strongly condemned the action of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) which registered an FIR against the correspondent of The Tribune, Rachna Khaira who tried to expose a private group which created a gateway to access the details of individuals by Adhaar cards.

Taking a strong view in the regard, the founder of NMC, Pushpa Pandeya said,“Instead of appreciating the great efforts of the reporter, the government department has registered FIR under section 419, 420, 468 and 471, IT Act and Adhar Card. We demand fair review in the matter and FIR should be withdrawn immediately. The reporter had no personal agenda and her job is to find out the loopholes in the existing system. On one side the Prime Minister has been promoting digital India but on the other side government department is trying the silence the voice of free media.   Our organization supports the correspondent and the organization which has discharged its duties well in the public interest. ”.

Adding to it, Deputy President and State In charge for northern region of NMC, Surinder Verma said, “The act of UIDAI is clearly against the freedom of the press. We are united for bringing justice to the correspondent whose investigative stories has raised various questions in the working of the system”.
