Punjab Raj Bhavan Echoes with Festive Spirit on Himachal Pradesh Foundation Day

Chandigarh, April 15, 2025:
The picturesque landscapes and vibrant culture of Himachal Pradesh came alive at Punjab Raj Bhavan as the 78th Foundation Day of the hill state was celebrated with warmth, colour, and patriotic fervour.

The Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, presided over the celebrations as the Chief Guest and extended his best wishes to the people of Himachal Pradesh on this significant occasion.

In his keynote address, Shri Kataria praised the immense progress Himachal Pradesh has made since its formation. Reflecting on its journey from a predominantly rural and hilly terrain to becoming one of India’s most literate, progressive, and environmentally conscious states, the Governor noted, “Himachal Pradesh has emerged as a model of balanced development—preserving its cultural ethos while embracing innovation, sustainability, and inclusive governance.”

He fondly recalled the contribution of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, whose visionary leadership and dedication laid a solid foundation for the state’s growth. “The state’s transformation stands as a testament to the resilience, industriousness, and deep-rooted values of its people,” he said.

The Governor also underlined Himachal’s growing contributions to national development, particularly in the fields of education, horticulture, tourism, and hydropower generation. “From serene villages nestled in the hills to its thriving towns, the people of Himachal have maintained an admirable harmony with nature while opening doors to modern education, clean energy, and digital advancement,” he remarked.

The event reflected the spirit of unity and diversity under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative of the Government of India. Traditional Himachali folk music, dances, and cultural performances created a festive atmosphere, offering a glimpse into the colourful tapestry of the state’s heritage. Handicraft displays, including intricately woven Kullu shawls, Chamba rumals, and Kangra paintings, captivated the guests and brought the artistic soul of the hills to the heart of Chandigarh.

The Governor emphasized that the people of Himachal have always upheld the values of simplicity, sincerity, and community spirit, which continue to inspire other states. He noted that several officers and employees from Himachal Pradesh serve with distinction in Chandigarh and have contributed immensely to the city’s administration and culture. He also acknowledged the historical and emotional ties between Chandigarh and the hill state, calling it a shared heritage nurtured through decades of cooperation and goodwill.

The occasion was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Mayor of Chandigarh, Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla; Shri Vivek Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary to the Governor of Punjab; Shri Satyapal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India; Shri Mandeep Singh Brar, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration; Shri Diprava Lakra, Finance Secretary, Chandigarh Administration; Shri Amit Kumar, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh; and Shri Raj Kumar Singh, Director General of Police, Chandigarh.
