Arbitrary Hiring in Chandigarh Tourism Department: 10 Experienced Drivers Removed, Corruption Suspected!
Earlier, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Hired Drivers – Now Tourism Department Wants Pilots?
Chandigarh, March 23 – Serious concerns of mismanagement and corruption have emerged after the Chandigarh Tourism Department removed 10 experienced drivers and started hiring new employees for operating battery-operated vehicles in the city. These vehicles, initially managed by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation under the Smart City Project, have now been transferred to the Tourism Department, leading to irregularities in hiring and staff replacement.
Suspicious Hiring Raises Questions on Transparency
Previously, the Municipal Corporation had recruited experienced drivers for these vehicles, ensuring smooth operations. However, the Tourism Department now insists on hiring ‘pilots’ instead of retaining the existing drivers. As part of this controversial move, 10 skilled and experienced drivers have been removed, and an equal number of new recruits are being brought in. The lack of justification for this decision has raised eyebrows, with many questioning whether corruption is at play.
Why Were Experienced Drivers Removed?
The removal of seasoned drivers raises serious transparency concerns. If the existing staff was already managing operations efficiently, why were they terminated instead of being absorbed into the new system? The situation suggests potential irregularities and administrative lapses, fueling speculation of favoritism or backdoor recruitment.
A Blow to Efficiency and Workforce Rights
The drivers who have been let go had years of experience, were well-versed with routes, and understood the technical and operational aspects of these vehicles. Their removal not only jeopardizes efficient operations but also highlights administrative negligence. Experts argue that replacing them with fresh recruits could impact the quality of service and create unnecessary disruptions.
BJP Demands Fair Hiring Process
Expressing strong opposition to the move, Sanjeev Rana, Media Incharge of BJP Chandigarh, has demanded that the Tourism Department reinstate the removed drivers. He stated that if the administration fails to address the issue, BJP will take up the matter with the Chandigarh Administration to ensure a fair and transparent process.
“The experienced staff should not be removed under any circumstances. The Tourism Department must provide a valid explanation for this decision. If transparency is compromised, we will not hesitate to raise this issue at the highest levels,” said Sanjeev Rana.
Next Steps: Will the Administration Respond?
With growing concerns from political leaders and affected employees, all eyes are now on the Chandigarh Administration. Will the Tourism Department justify its decision and ensure a fair recruitment process, or will the matter escalate into a larger controversy? The coming days will be crucial in determining the fate of the removed drivers and the credibility of the hiring process.
