Review of SDH Manimajra and Plans for Expansion of Facilities.

Chandigarh, January 13, 2025: The Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh ,Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria conducted surprise visits to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, and the Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Manimajra, to assess healthcare services and infrastructure.

At GMSH, Sector 16, the Administrator inspected the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Post-Natal Ward, Labour Room, Advanced Pediatric Centre, and the proposed site for the expansion of the Emergency Wing. During the visit, he interacted with patients and their families to inquire about their health and the quality of services being provided. Special attention was given to cleanliness, availability of medicines, quality of meals, and patient privacy. He appreciated the hospital’s measures to ensure privacy for female patients, such as cubicle curtains and partitions.

In the Advanced Pediatric Centre, the hospital staff briefed the Administrator on the specialized services provided, including care for newborns with complications and low birth weight. Sh. Kataria was informed about tele-consultation facilities enabling consultations with super-specialty departments at PGIMER, Chandigarh, which have improved critical pediatric care. Additionally, he reviewed the robust referral system in place and its efficiency in providing timely care.

The Governor also examined the proposed site for the expansion of the Emergency Wing, a project designed to reduce overcrowding and improve patient management in the Emergency Triage Area. He directed the concerned authorities to expedite the construction process to address these challenges effectively.

During his visit to SDH, Manimajra, the Administrator inspected various departments, including the Emergency Area, Medical Ward, Labour Room, and Gynae Ward. He interacted with patients to understand their experiences and reviewed the hospital’s admission status. Emphasis was placed on the optimal utilization of available facilities to enhance patient care.

Director of Health Services briefed the Governor about the recent sanction of a Critical Care Block for SDH, Manimajra, by the Government of India. Land proposals for the project were discussed, and the Governor directed authorities to explore vertical expansion options for accommodating the new facilities.

Sh.Ajay Chagti, Secretary Health,Dr.Suman , Director Health and other senior faculty of Hospital was also present during the visit.
