NSS 80th Round of Household Social Consumption: Health and Comprehensive Modular Survey (CMS) – Telecom
- The Government of India collects information from time to time from individuals, households and owners of establishments. The data so collected is used for planning and policy formulation both at National and State levels. The Field Operations Division of NSO under the Mospi is the largest data collecting body under the Government of India and has been engaged in data collection in association with the State Governments for more than seventy years.
- During its next Round i.e. 80th Round of Socio-Economic Surveys (January 2025 to December 2025), NSO and the Department of Economics & Statistical Affairs (DESA) will be collecting data from the selected households on ‘Household Social Consumption: Health and Comprehensive Modular Survey (CMS) – Telecom’. The survey on health aims to generate basic quantitative information on the health sector. A vital component is the information relevant to the determination of the prevalence rate of morbidity among various age-sex groups in different regions of the country. Further, measurement of the extent of use of health services provided by the government is an indispensable part of the exercise. Special attention is given to hospitalization, or medical care received as in patient of medical institutions. The ailments for which such medical care is sought, the extent of use of government hospitals, and the expenditure incurred on treatment received from public and private sectors, are all to be investigated by the survey.
- The objective of the schedule CMS-T is to collect and provide information on telecom-related indicators and ICT skills to address the requirements of DoT, MeitY etc. This survey is designed to fill existing data gaps that cannot be met by other sources, such as administrative records, other surveys etc. The collected data will also be used for reporting of global indices by line ministries/ departments. In order to impart training to the enumerators and supervisors involved in the survey, a two days Regional Training Conference has begun on 18.12.2024 at 3rd floor, conference hall, kendriya sadan, Sector-9A, Chandigarh. 50 participants from RO Chandigarh, attended the conference. Besides, officers of NSO, officers/officials of DESA, Haryana also participated in this Conference.
- Shri Kailash G Sharma, Deputy Director General, NSO, Chandigarh inaugurated the conference. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the need for collecting a reliable and accurate data. He said the reliable data collected by the field staff would help in the development, planning and policy formulation.
- Shri Manoj Kumar Goel, Additional Director, Department of Economic & Statistical Affairs, Haryana in his address stated that Haryana is also participating in conducting the survey on equal matching basis. He also emphasized the need for ‘quality data’ for planning and policy formulation.
