Orientation Program on Gender Sensitization Conducted at U.T. Secretariat
Chandigarh, December 13, 2024: An orientation program on Gender Sensitization was successfully conducted today at the U.T. Secretariat, Sector 9, Chandigarh. The program witnessed the participation of approximately 100 officials from different departments of Chandigarh Administration, aiming to enhance awareness and understanding of gender equality in workplaces and policymaking.
Secretary, Social Welfare, U.T. Chandigarh, addressed the audience & emphasized the importance of fostering gender sensitivity to build an inclusive society. She highlighted that gender sensitization is not about creating divides but about fostering mutual respect and understanding. The significance of good parenting in shaping future generations with values of equality and empathy was also underlined.
The session was led by Prof. Manwinder Kaur, Department of Women’s Studies, Punjab University. Drawing from her expertise, Dr. Kaur provided valuable insights into breaking gender stereotypes, promoting equal opportunities, and addressing unconscious biases. The interactive session encouraged participants to reflect on their roles in creating gender-sensitive environments at home and work.
This initiative aligns with the broader commitment of the U.T. Administration to promote gender equality in all spheres of life. The program concluded with a call for collective efforts to foster a culture of respect, empathy, and inclusion, contributing to Chandigarh’s vision of becoming a model city for gender equity.
