Enhanced Surveillance in the city bt Excise Department to curb the menace of Inter-state Liqour Smuggling in view of upcoming Haryana Assembly Election 2024.

Chandigarh 2.9.2024: Sh. H.S. Brar, Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner, UT Chandigarh stated that the Excise Department is continuing and further strengthening its drive against illegal smuggling of liquor to ensure integrity of supply chain of liquor and to enforce guidelines in view of the Election to Haryana Assembly 2024.

Dedicated Excise teams consisting of ETOs and ETIs formed to keep vigil and check liquor outlets and the wholesale traders. During the course of the checking of physical stock lying at the premises/shops/additional godowns, stock registers will be tallied with issued pass/permits. In case any discrepancy under the Excise Policy 2024-25, Excise Act 1914 and MCC guidelines will be detected, the Department will act swiftly taking stringent action against the perpetrators

The Police department has also been requested to strengthen the police Nakas (19 in No.) to check the interstate smuggling of liquor. The Excise department has deployed its staff on the nakas to assist in the exercise.

The google location of the Licensee warehouses, shops, additional Godown have been shared with the police department, with a request to enhance surveillance in the city to curb the menace of Inter-state Smuggling of Liqour. A team of excise office for 24X7 monitoring has also been constituted.

On the directions of the Excise and Taxation Commissioner, a meeting with the bottling plants, Wholesalers and Retail Vend owners of Chandigarh was held today i.e Monday 2nd Sept 2024 where various issues regarding enforcement, issuance of permits – imports and exports were discussed including the effectively monitoring of the bottling plants 24X7 with the ex-servicemen deployed through PESCO. It was made clear to the licensee that no movement of stocks will be permitted without the Track and Trace. Collector Excise cum Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner committed to the Department’s cooperation and facilitation for smooth running of businesses and issued directions to the licensees that Department will constantly monitor their activities and will carry out regular inspections.

Sh. H.S. Brar further stated that the department has further enhanced enforcement activities to ensure that no stone is left unturned to curb the menace of interstate smuggling of liquor to and from Chandigarh.
