Haryana Strengthens Women’s Safety Network, Remarkable Decline in Crimes Against Women
Chandigarh, July 5 – Haryana Police’s efforts to curb crimes against women have resulted in a significant reduction in such incidents. This achievement reflects the state’s improvements in law enforcement and the establishment of a robust safety network for women.
Measures for Women’s Safety
Actions on Hotspots and Hot Routes: Since taking charge as Director General of Police in August 2023, Shatrujeet Kapur has prioritized women’s safety. Meetings with senior police officials led to the formulation of an action plan to ensure women feel safe. This included analyzing women’s movement from home to late-night returns. Police Commissioners and Superintendents were instructed to identify hotspots and hot routes in their jurisdictions. Police teams were deployed on these routes to take action against offenders and those with criminal tendencies. Officers also conduct duty in plain clothes on these routes and near schools, colleges, and other educational institutions to provide a safe environment for women. Additionally, a group of female officers in Gurugram has been trained to interact with girls and women in educational institutions to understand their issues closely.
Strict Action Against Offenders: Village guards and ward officials have been directed to identify and act against those who commit atrocities against women in their areas. Feedback is collected from victims after offenders are released from jail to ensure they are not being harassed again. Appropriate action is taken if such instances come to notice.
Durga Shakti Teams and Unique Code Stickers on Cabs: SWAT teams patrol different areas to ensure women’s safety, including through checkpoints. Autos, e-rickshaws, and cabs have unique number stickers that provide essential details like the driver’s name, photo, mobile number, and address. Women can easily remember these numbers and share them with the police in case of any incident. Haryana Police has also introduced a trip monitoring service for women using public transport. Women can register with Haryana 112, and their journey is tracked until they reach their destination safely. Additionally, the Durga Shakti Rapid Action Force, comprising 24 companies and 50 patrolling vehicles, is linked to Haryana 112 to promptly address complaints related to women’s safety.

The positive impact of Haryana Police’s efforts to ensure women’s safety is evident. Sharing the statistics, Mr. Kapur stated that comparing 2022 and 2023, there was a 12.64% decrease in rape cases in 2024 compared to 2023. Similarly, attempted rape cases decreased by 60.28%, and molestation cases dropped by 27.21% as of June 30, 2024. Additionally, there was a 6.46% reduction in cases registered under the POCSO Act and a 25.23% decline in dowry deaths compared to the previous year.
