“Use of Artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of radiology will give more accurate diagnoses and provide better care to the patients”, Dr Harsh Mahajan, Padma Shri

The PGIMER organised the on 16 th November 2023. The oration was presided over by Prof. Vivek Lal -Director, PGI and Prof. Naresh Panda, Dean (Academics), PGI. The oration was initiated in the memory of Prof J.S. Sodhi, who was the first Head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis at its inception in 1961 and played a key role in the progress of Radiology at the Institute.
The Orator, Dr Harsh Mahajan Padma Shri, a Radiology Alumnus of PGI, Founder and Chairman Mahajan Imaging & Lab’s, New Delhi and Chairman
of CARING (Centre for Advanced Research in Imaging, Neurosciences and Genomics- a first of its kind Research Institute in India) and Chairman, Deptt. of Nuclear Medicine and PET CT at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi delivered the “Prof.J.S. Sodhi Memorial Oration” on 16 th November, 2023. The topic of his oration was ‘Artificial Intelligence in Radiology: “A Peep into the Future” where Dr. Harsh introduced the increasing relevance of AI in the field of Medicine particularly in Radiology and how the physicians need to embrace this concept for better management of their patients in the future.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is having a major impact on the field of radiology. AI algorithms can now be used to analyze medical images and identify abnormalities with a high degree of accuracy. This can help radiologists to diagnose diseases earlier and more effectively, and can also improve patient outcomes. One of the most promising applications of AI in radiology is in the detection of cancer. AI algorithms can be trained to identify subtle patterns in medical images that may be indicative of cancer. This can help radiologists to detect cancer earlier, when it is more likely to be treatable. AI is also being used to improve the accuracy of other radiological diagnosis. For example, AI can be used to identify fractures, pneumonia, and other abnormalities in medical images. This can help radiologists to make more accurate diagnoses and provide better care to their patients. The Oration was organized by Prof. Paramjeet Singh, Prof. Mandeep Garg, and Dr. Chirag Ahuja under the able guidance of HOD Radiology Prof. M.S.Sandhu. This was the 4 th such Prof. Sodhi Memorial Oration being held after a gap of 10 years.
