“The Meraki Fest” was a week-long informative program organized by the Peer Educator Team of St. Anne’s Convent School under the able guidance of our Principal Sr. Siji Issac in honour of International Mental Health Week. The Peer Educator Team, a product of CBSE’s ‘Adolescent Peer Educators Leadership Program in Life,’ focuses on educating adolescents in the community about crucial issues related to their health and development.

The fest kicked off on October 9th with a compelling assembly presented by the senior classes, where they explained the concept of mental health to their peers, showcasing an increased awareness among adolescents about their mental well-being. On the same day, the peer leaders and educators were recognized and awarded their respective badges.

On the second day, October 10th, the young members of the peer educator team conducted an assembly to share their goals and dedication with the audience. They raised awareness about the mental and physical well-being of students and shed light on the ongoing Meraki Fest.

Day 3 (October 11th) featured a mass yoga session for students from 5th to 12th grade, promoting the importance of exercise and demonstrating the interdependence of mental and physical health.

Day 4 (October 12th) saw Dr. Krishan K Sony, an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from PGIMER, Chandigarh, leading a seminar for students in 10th to 12th grade. The seminar focused on emotional well-being and effective cooperative strategies to address mental health issues. A follow-up question-and-answer session provided valuable insights and guidance for students.

Day 5 (October 13th) showcased the storytelling skills and creativity of young Anneans through a short puppet show for students in 3rd and 4th grade. This left a powerful message with the young students, boosting their confidence. Mrs. Sarika Kapila, the school counsellor, also conducted a session to educate students about “Good Touch and Bad Touch,” equipping them with the knowledge to protect themselves.

On Day 6 (October 14th), The Meraki Fest concluded with an interactive program for parents of students in classes 1st to 5th. This program aimed to assist young parents in creating a healthy environment for their children’s growth. It was organized by the Student Peer Educators and the Teacher Peer Mentors, Mrs. Sarika Kapila and Mrs. Sonia, showcasing their talents and dedication.

With the goal of making students feel heard and fostering self-belief in their mental health journey, the Peer Educator Team looks forward to continuing their future endeavours.
