4 Days Management Development Program for NUHM Officials concluded today.
Dr. Suman Singh, Director of Health Services in Chandigarh, lauded the Management Development Program hosted by PGIMER, designed for Odisha, during the valedictory ceremony of the program. Dr. Singh emphasized that the program, aimed at building the capacity of program managers, should serve as a model to be adopted by other states across the country.
The Management Development Program, organized by the International Public Health Management Development Program at PGIMER, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the National Health Mission, Government of Odisha, took place from October 3rd to October 6th, 2023, at Hotel Park View, Chandigarh. The program focused on enhancing the skills and knowledge of National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) officials from Odisha in effectively implementing NUHM initiatives in their respective regions.
During the program’s culmination, a special panel discussion was conducted, featuring distinguished experts in the field of public health and NUHM implementation. The panelists included Dr. Nidhi (Consultant, NUHM Haryana), Dr. Anju Bhatia (Consultant, NHM Chandigarh), Dr. Sonia Thatia (Program Officer, NUHM Punjab), Dr. Keerti (Professor, Health Management), among others.
The panel discussion highlighted the innovative approaches to urban healthcare delivery, strategies for community engagement and awareness, effective utilization of resources and infrastructure, data management and monitoring for improved healthcare outcomes. Dr. Sonia Thatia, Program Officer, NUHM Punjab, one of the key panellists shared the best practices of the state which emphasized the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing among states for the successful implementation of NUHM.
When Professor Goel asked Dr. Nidhi to give key insights about leveraging technology and data analytics to enhance program management, service delivery and Monitoring. Haryana state is first state in the country to start the GIS mapping in NUHM before the other states and also implemented Hub and Spoke model for strengthening telemedicine in the state said Dr. Nidhi,Consultant, NUHM Haryana
“Use of abandoned school buildings shall be done to address space constraints for Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC) in Chandigarh” mentioned Dr. Anju Bhatia Consultant, NHM Chandigarh during the panel discussion on challenges faced during NUHM implementation and the strategies that are being employed to overcome them by respective states.
“The panel discussion today serves as a platform for cross-state learning, and we hope that the experiences shared here will benefit Odisha in enhancing its urban healthcare services,” said Dr. Goel. Senior State Official from Odisha appreciated the use of gamification technique in teaching and for hands on practice during the session and ensured that after three months of the completion of the program the attendees share the implementation of action plan designed during the program.
The program covered various aspects of urban healthcare delivery, including vulnerability mapping through GIS, Gap analysis in Health system and framework, making a strategic and operational plan through Log Frame, Undertaking Monitoring and Evaluation: Tools and Techniques, and demonstration of best practices during Field visit at Kurukshetra.
During the ceremony, the winners of various contests such as “Humble leader”, “Most active participant”, “e-IPHMDP contest” etc. were announced. Thedelegates were awarded certificates for the successful completion of the program.
