Awareness Program on Investors Education at PU

On the occasion of World Investor Week, the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Multi Commodity Exchange successfully organized today, a webinar titled “Awareness Program on Investors Education” which was coordinated by the entrepreneurship and Corporate Relations Cell of UIAMS.

Prof. Devinder Singh, Chairperson, Dept. of Laws and Secretary to V.C., Panjab University congratulated UIAMS for organizing a webinar on such a relevant issue and emphasized the importance of knowledge and skills for students in their careers. He also highlighted the importance of investor education and protection. He hoped that this webinar would leave a positive impact on the students, and would help them become more equipped and skilled individuals.

Mr. Chandra Nath Pandey,  Manager, Business Development, MCX Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and New Delhi in his address stated that the main objective of the webinar as imparting knowledge on commodity and financial markets and to inform students about the changes taking place in the market after coming of SEBI in 2015. He also emphasized on the related career aspects. He informed that the webinar was being conducted under the banner of SEBI and IOSCO (International Organization of Securities Commissions).

 Mr. Vinit Singh Kaler, Sr. Manager Training and Education MCX, New Delhi, in his address elaborated upon our dependence on commodities. He mentioned that only 8-9% of the shares belong to Service Industry and the rest is constituted by Product Linked Market. He highlighted that India has the potential to become the price setter and further shed light on derivatives of commodities, their types, commodity exchange and factors affecting it, commodity contracts, and hedging. Mr. Kaler introduced students to various trading strategies and stated that commodity markets will offer a wide range of career opportunities not only in India but internationally.
