Installation of 500 kWp SPV Power Plant at Government Model High School-I & II, Maloya, Chandigarh

Chandigarh.10th August,2021: Installation of 500 kWp (250kWp+250kWp) SPV Power Plant at Govt. Model High School-I & Govt. Model High School-II, Maloya, Chandigarh inaugurated today by Sh.Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser , UT Chandigarh in presence of Sh.Arun Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary (Science & Technology & RE) and Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Director (Science & Tech. & Renewable Energy)-cum-CEO, CREST, UT Chandigarh. This Plant has been installed on the rooftop and parking area of Govt. Model High School-I & Govt. Model High School-II, Maloya, Chandigarh with a total cost of Rs.2.2 Crore which includes O&M cost for 10 years and executed by Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST). This plant will generate approximately 6,50,000 units of electricity annually and shall help the UT Chandigarh marching towards 100% Renewable Energy Powered.

The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts taken by CREST in developing Chandigarh as Model Solar City. He appreciated the lead taken by CREST in installing 45MWp Solar Rooftop Plants on Govt Buildings as well as Private buildings including residential houses in Chandigarh so far. The installation of new solar power plant will reduce electricity bill of Govt. Model High School-I & Govt. Model High School-II, Maloya, Chandigarh and will also generate revenue for the U.T., Administration after transfer of excess electricity generated by the Solar Power Plant to the grid of Electricity Department, UT Chandigarh. The payback period of the solar power system installed will be approximately 06 years.

The Adviser , UT Chandigarh also interacted with the school children of Maloya school attending the classes offline to take their feedback on current COVID protocol being followed during the offline classes.

The function was attended by Dr.Abdul Qayum, IFS, Addl. CEO, CREST, Sh.Rubinderjit Singh Brar, PCS, Director Higher Education, UT Chandigarh, School Principal and officers/officials from the Administration.
