Chandigarh, Feb 2 – In January, Haryana Police has succeeded in securing conviction of eight accused booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), NDPS Act and other provisions of IPC.
Giving this information here today, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that all these accused have been brought to justice through effective and concerted presentation of evidence before the concerned Courts.
In January, one accused was awarded life imprisonment, two sentenced 20 years imprisonment, four sentenced 10 years jail and one convict awarded seven years imprisonment.
He said that Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana, Sh. Manoj Yadava had been closely monitoring the Commissioners of Police and district Superintendent of Police to ensure ‘effective pairvi’ of cases pertaining to child rape and other grave crimes. In order to provide speedy justice to the victims, the police puts all important cases in the category of ‘Chinhit Apradh’ and then coordinates with the prosecution and other agencies to ensure speedy and effective trial. Such cases are dealt on priority and a charge sheet is filed at the earliest possible time after proper investigation to achieve a better rate of conviction.
Giving the details of convictions, he said that Court in Yamunanagar has awarded 20-years imprisonment to a 65 years old accused of sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
In another case, Court in Rewari sentenced a man to 20 years imprisonment after holding him guilty for a raping a minor girl. It also imposed a fine of Rs 22000. The convict has to undergo 6 months additional jail in case of non payment of fine.
In the case of sodomising and killing a 12-year-old child, the Yamunanagar Court convicted the accused and sentenced life term with fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 302 and 20 years imprisonment in the POCSO Act with fine of Rs 10000.
A Court in Gurugram on the basis of strong evidence and witnesses has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for raping and blackmailing a girl. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 55000 on the convicted person. The convict will have to undergo two years additional imprisonment in case of non-payment of fine
In one of the cases of murder, the Court of Bhiwani, while holding one accused guilty, has sentenced 10 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000. The accused shot his cousin in the court premises due to old enmity.
At the same time, during the hearing in the NDPS case, the Court in Sirsa convicted two accused of drug peddling and sentenced them to 10 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs one lakh each. Non-payment of fine will lead to additional imprisonment for two years.
In Gurugram, the court sentenced the jail warder to 7 years imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 50000 in a corruption case. The court also ordered to face additional imprisonment of 6 months for not paying the fine.
