Health Department launched Electronic vaccine logistics system Intelligence Network to improve vaccine coverage in India Chandigarh, October 20, 2020:

Health Department U.T. Chandigarh has successfully launched Electronic vaccine logistics system intelligence network under the leadership of Dr. Amandeep Kang, Director Health & Family Welfare cum Mission Director – National Health Mission, Chandigarh Administration.

First batch of eVIN training program for Vaccine Cold Chain Handlers has been conducted on 19th & 20th October 2020. Training of second batch will be conducted simultaneously on 22nd & 23rd October 2020.The Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) implemented by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is an innovative technological solution aimed at strengthening immunization supply chain systems in India. eVIN aims to support the Government of India’s Universal Immunization Programme by providing real-time information on vaccine stocks and flows, and storage temperatures across all cold chain points.eVIN combines technology, systematic record-keeping practices and a strong network of trained personnel to support State governments in addressing widespread inequities in vaccine coverage by overcoming constraints of infrastructure, monitoring and management information systems, and human resources.

All cold chain handlers have been given smartphones with the eVIN application, which allows for the digitalization of vaccine inventories. Every cold chain handler will enter the net utilization for each vaccine in the standardized registers at the end of every immunization day. This is simultaneously updated in the eVIN application and uploaded on a cloud server, which can then be viewed by programme managers at the State and National levels through online dashboards.SIM-enabled temperature loggers will be attached to the cold chain equipment capture temperature information through a digital sensor placed in the refrigerator. Dr. Sangeeta Ajay, District Immunization Officer said that eVIN implementation in UT Chandigarh will streamline the vaccine flow network as well as ensure equity through easy and timely availability of vaccines to all beneficiaries. Dr. Manisha Mandal, Senior Project Officer, UNDP appreciated the enthusiasm and motivation of the health workers during the training sessions.
