Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh is provinding blood support to about 450 Thalassemic patients from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh by arranging blood Transfusions in its Day Care Centres at PGIMER and GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia. Blood transfusion is widely recommended treatment for Thalassaemics for maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level.
This Trust is doing its best to mobilize blood donation by organizing weekly Blood Donation Camps on every Saturday since 06 June 2020 with cooperation of Blood Bank of PGIMER. More than 1700 units of blood have been collected in these Camps.

Today on 19th September 2020 Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh organized its 200th Blood Donation Camp in PGIMER. 87_ voluntary donors donated blood for Thalasaemics and other needy patients. Organising 200 Blood Donation Camps is a record in the tricity. This is a record in itself in Chandigarh tricity. Prof(Dr.) Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER Chandigarh accompanied by Prof.(Dr) Rati Ram Sharma Head of Department, Transfusion Medicine and other faculty members inaugurated Blood Donation Camp. He congratulated and presented badges to Blood Donors for joining this nobel mission. He also lauded the role of the Trust for organizing Blood Camps and service of Thalassaemics.

Shri Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh thanked all blood donors and Prof.(Dr) Rati Ram Sharma Head of Department, Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER and his staff for success of Blood Donation Camps. All blood donors were honoured with gifts and Donor Certificates.
