Big catch by Food Safety Teams

Chandigarh:   In a big catch on Thursday the Food Safety Teams seized huge quantities of Milk and Milk Products(M&MP) from Patiala and Moga informed, KS Pannu, Commissioner Food And Drug Administration, Punjab.

Pannu who is directly the leading the campaign against spurious and adulterated M&MP, informed that on a tip off, the Food Safety Teams along with the police officials conducted a raid at Singla Milk Chilling Centre near Devigarh in Patiala and seized a large quantity of spurious milk, paneer and desi ghee. 53 bags of milk powder, 250 litres of sulphuric acid, 1530 litres of chemical ,750 litres vinegar, 10 quintals of white powder, 9 kg of Surf ,7000 litres of milk, 3 tankers, 20 quintals paneer and 45 kg butter were seized on the spot.

In a similar raid at Food Safety Team of Health Department  along with  officers of Dairy Development Department supported by  police officials, raided  Vishnu Milk Centre  Baghapurana in district Moga wherein one quintal skimmed milk powder ,15 kg of detergent powder, 28 Quintals  of spurious desi ghee, 300 litres of suspected  curd, 300 kg of  paneer has been seized . Samples of all products have been taken and sent to State Lab at Kharar.”After the report of samples prosecution proceedings shall be launched against culprits,” said Pannu.

At Sangrur, the team conducted raid at Hira Dairy Farm at village Harkishanpura in Bhawanigarh area of Sangrur and collected seven samples of spurious milk and milk products including that from 12 quintals of milk, and 100 kg each of dahi and paneer.

Earlier in the week, surprise checks were conducted at a 1000 odd places including chilling centres, creameries, milk establishments in remote areas, interception of tankers  by special nakas and at toll barriers, unearthing huge quantities of M&MP. Many a cases of unhygienic preparation, usage of acids and colouring agents forbidden under FSSA were detected.

Commissioner Food and Drug Administration said that sampling is afoot at war level and the drive would continue unabated till the culprits mend their ways. He said,” I am happy to share that people are coming forward and supporting us to conduct the raids with useful tip offs.”
