Launch of Skill Training Programme in the trade of Fashion Designing

Chandigarh, August, 14:- Govt. Home Science College, Sector 10, Chandigarh (Department of Clothing & Textiles) has launched a Skill Training Programme in the trade of Fashion Designing under Employment through Skills Training & Placement (EST&P) Component of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) being implemented by State Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh in which Sh. K.K. Yadav, I.A.S. Commissioner, M.C. Chandigarh was the Chief Guest.

75 Nos. urban poor youths from Khudda Lahora, Kaimbala, Khudda Alisher, Dhanas and other rehabilitated colonies of Chandigarh have been selected for imparting training at the premises of Govt. Home Science College Chandigarh under the supervision of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal, Govt. Home Science College, Chandigarh welcomed the Chief Guest, Sh. K.K. Yadav, I.A.S., Commissioner, MCC; Guest of Honour Sh. Rupinderjit Singh Brar, P.C.S., Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration; Sh. Vivek Trivedi, Social Development Officer, DAY-NULM; Faculties and beneficiaries who are present in the launching ceremony of Fashion Designing programme.

The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 22.50 lacs for imparting training in the trade of Fashion Designing.  The duration of the course will be minimum four months; in all 460 hours training (400 hrs technical training + 60 hrs soft skill training plus ethics plus social values which will include skill training on communication, basic life skills inclusive of financial literacy.   In addition, Skill Training Providers (STPs) will also work on soft skills like newspaper reading-jobs, placements, interviews, bio-data making, bio-data submissions, follow-ups, communication over phone etc.

In addition to that a convocation ceremony was also organized by Sarthak Educational Trust, NITTTR, Chandigarh supported and funded by Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh in which Sh. K.K. Yadav, I.A.S., Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest and Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Pattnaik, Director, NITTTR was the Guest of Honour. 59 beneficiaries with disability have successfully completed the training programme in the trade of Data Entry Operator and House Keeping Attendant.  A grant of Rs. 15.00 lacs was sanctioned for imparting training under Employment through Skills Training & Placement (EST&P) Component of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. K.K. Yadav, I.A.S., Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh lauded the initiative of the Municipal Corporation and said it was heartening to know that DAY NULM has focused  on inclusive growth and development through skill development. He feels really proud to be here to see how lives of underprivileged persons are being gradually transformed.

Sh. Vivek Trivedi, Social Development Officer, DAY-NULM briefed everyone about the work done in the city under the DAY-NULM programme for the marginalized, vulnerable and economically weaker sections, particularly women. He also said that similar courses will soon be started in various trades too for economic empowerment of PwDs.

Ms Neha Dogra, Project Manager SARTHAK shared that 63% beneficiaries were placed in companies like Lemon Tree, KFC, Gillard, MAX retails, Reliance fresh, Alpala, Amrit Plastronic, RED FOX, Competent synergy, SMPL Call Center, Life Style, West Side etc with remuneration ranging from INR 6500 to INR 14000.mirr
