Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh organised its 203rd Blood Donation Camp in PGIMER, Chandigarh on 7th November 2020. In today’s camp 71 units of blood was collected from honoured voluntary blood donors for Thalassaemics and other serious patients requiring blood support. This Trust has organised 21 Blood Donation Camps since 6th June 2020 and has moblizied more than 1960 units of blood from voluntary donors during COVID19 lockdown period.
The Trust is running two Day Care Centres for regular blood transfusions of Thalassaemics since 1985 in PGIMER & GMCH Chandigarh.
Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia. Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days is widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal Haemoglobin level. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust is running two Day Care in PGIMER and GMCH Chandigarh where 450 thalassaemics receive blood transfusions while needy patients are also provided free medicines.
Sh. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh thanked all blood donors, Prof.(Dr.) Ratti Ram Sharma, Head, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine PGIMER, Chandigarh and his team for success of this Camp by observing social distancing and other COVID19 precautions.
The next Blood Donation Camp by the Trust will be organized on 12th November 2020 at Blood Donation Complex, Advance Trauma Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh from 1000 to 1530 hours. All voluntary blood donors and social organizations are requested to participate in this camp.
