304th Monthly baithak of Pracheen Kala Kendra marked with melodious strings of Sarod
Pracheen Kala Kendra organized its 304th Monthly baithak programe at its M.L Koser Indoor Auditorium here today. The baithak was marked with a soulful performance by Kolkata based eminent Sarod exponent Kalyan Mukherjee. He was finely accompanied by Germany based tabla exponent Florian Schietz.
Kalian Mukherjee was born in a family, who was associated with traditional arts and culture since long. His father Shri Ajay Kumar Mukherjee was a violinist and a disciple of the late Sarod player Ustad Bahadur Khan. Kalyan started learning Tabla in his childhood before he started learning Sarod from Shri Sachin Pal. Later Kalyan learnt sarod under the tutelage of sarod maestro Ustad Bahadur Khan later continued to hone his musical skill under the guidance of Pandit Ajay Sinha Roy. Kalyan has carved a niche for himself with his brilliant performances, talent, energy and his deeply emotional approach to music. He has performed in many prestigious concerts in India and abroad.
On the other hand, Florian Schiertz, a tabla player from Germany comes from an artistic background whose parents are active in the field of fine arts.. He was attracted to the tabla after seeing Trilok Gurtu, who wrote a composition for him (“Dhaa Te Te Dha Te Dha Te Dha Te Dha Ge Tu Naa Ka Ta”) after a concert. This first poignant experience of the world of sound and the technique of playing the tabla inspired Florian to learn tabla. Florian started learning Tabla under the tutelage of Uday Majumdar. He also studied Indian classical music and learned the intricacies of Tabla playing through the traditional Guru-Shishya tradition with Pandit Sumantra Guha in Kolkata. He then started working as an independent musician. He has performed in various programs in India.
Today’s program commenced with Raag Jhinjhoti in which the Bhaav paksh of the Raag was presented through traditional Alaap. After this, Vilambit Gat was presented in Teen Taal. In this presentation he presented taans, tihaiys and different rhythms followed by compositions in Madhya laya Teen taal. After a fast tempo Jhaala, the program concluded with a beautiful dhun. Fine accompaniment on Tabla by Florian added success to the event. At the end of the program, the Secretary of the Kendra, Sh Sajal Koser honored the artists with Uttariya and memento
